Full credit should be given to him for thiswise decision. The former, of 40 k.w. capacity (Plate 21), was put to workin June, 1905 on the Sheffield City Corporation Electrical Supply, and has since been continuously in use, that is, for a periodof over 16 years. In addition to a saving in weight of core material, the coreweighing only 830 lbs. as against 1,120 lbs. for a similar Trans-former using the best Transformer iron obtainable, the Mag-netising Losses of this Transformer were only 176 watts asagainst 238 watts for best Transformer iron. While in use theMagnetising losses have steadily decreased, as shown by thefollowing tests :—July 4th, 1905, 176 watts ; August 4th, 19D5,161 watts; May 8th, 1906, 150 watts; March 26
