For most people, 99kg (218lb) would be an unspeakably disastrous reading. For me it’s an achievement. I’m not sure exactly when I topped 100kg, but it would have around 6 or 7 years ago. About 3 years ago, when I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was 118kg. After that I started exercising regularly and eating more sensibly. I lost a bit of weight then, but got stuck around the 110 mark, where I remained for a while.
Over the past year, with some help from my partner, I’ve gradually been shedding kilos and weighed in around 106kg at my last visit to the doctor. However, it wasn’t until I started on a formal diet that I’ve really seen movement, losing 4kg in as many weeks.
I still have a long way to go. At 99kg I am still clinically a lard-arse. At 96kg I will join the ranks of the merely overweight. My ideal weight is about 70kg, but I would be happy if I managed to get down to 85.
