Assam at the Vet

Assam at the vet this morning. She took a turn for the worse over the last week and lost another 200g of weight and now weighs 1.32kg, which is very dangerous for cats (especially 18 1/2 year old cats). Because of her illness and lack of weight, we didn’t give her any vaccines along with the other cats. Assam’s weight loss probably wasn’t caused by thyroid issues – we think it may be due to the tumor in her jaw, which has probably spread, maybe to her brain. So, we’re spoiling her as much as we can and giving her as much food as she can eat (without letting her eat so much her mouth bleeds).

[Later: So far, she’s eaten a huge amount today and is still hungry. And, thankfully, her tongue hasn’t bled due to her misaligned jaws.]

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today took aim at weight-loss diet scams that she said represent “a crisis in consumer protection”—using a hearing in the Consumer Protection panel that she leads to pose tough questions to popular TV host Dr. Mehmet Oz on his frequent claims about “miracle” products, explore options for regulators and industry to crack down on deceptive practices, and urge media outlets to strengthen screening of false advertising.
