On eachtoe of each foot there is a smalldisk, or cup-shaped sucker, fromwhich by pressure it can at onceexclude air, and so attach itselfto the smoothest surface, walk-ing calmly across a ceilingas easily as its prey, the fly,oes. It has two cries. In trees,its usual haunt in summer, be-fore rain it utters a shrill, piercingcry, that is harsh and deafening.The other cry is the bird-like,low whistle I have already al-luded to.
